Vex Redain

"Eorzea, to th' very end."

Captain of the Grand Company of Eorzea
Chosen of the Navigator

Profile

Race: Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te
Age: Thirty Two Summers
Sexuality: Pansexual Polyamorous
Birthplace: Moraby Bay, La Noscea
Nationality: Lominsan
Occupation: Privateer Captain of the Maelstrom's Black Sails

Born in the shadow of marble cliffs, covered with tribal markings & tattoos, thriving on the bounty offered by a life made at sea. A life well-lived in the staunchly patriotic service of the Thalassocratic state of Limsa Lominsa.
As Captain of the Pride of Moraby, a Ship-o'-the-Line in service to the Maelstrom's adjutant Black Sails privateers, Vex enjoys the perks of her station to the fullest. As with gil and arrogance, Vex has a wealth of experience of exploration, warfare, and general troublemaking antics. Locations she's reached through her career include the far-off lands of Mamook; the Studiums of frigid Sharlayan; the sweltering sands of Thavnair; to the dead jungles of Meracydia.
Perhaps you've heard of her, perhaps you haven't, if not - she'll ensure you're well-versed in no time.

Hooks

These are far from exhaustive, if you have an idea, I'm open to tells & walk-ups any time. I'm always up for a chat, and learning more about other's characters! I'd love to hear more!

Current Plot Hooks:
- The Grand Company of Eorzea: Part of the Maelstrom Contingent at the Second Battle of Carteneau, Vex has pledged herself further to the fight against the Telophoroi. Any other Grand Company personnel have an easy connection here.
- Bozja: A relentless supporter of the efforts against the Empire, and intending to see it destroyed utterly. Vex and the crew of the Pride are a constant sight in Gangos and the other free ports of the Near East. If you're a fellow supporter of the cause, you'll find a firm friend here.
- The Great Ship Vylbrand: Building upon the recent decision by the Admiralty to focus on trade, Vex eagerly seeks out opportunity to sell both her own goods, and those of the newly-allied Kobold both at home and abroad.

General Hooks:
- Lominsan Patriot - A patriot at heart, Vex thoroughly enjoys the presence of her brethren. Any Lominsan is of interest to her, and who wouldn't like a friend with such wealth? Maybe you've even crossed paths before.
- Captain - Vex owns two ships, and has no shortage of crew. If you're looking to hire a ship, look no further, or perhaps you simply want work?
- Adventurous Spirit - Have a venture you're interested in undertaking, require a financier, benefactor, or perhaps just an extra hand? Vex never turns down a good delve into the unknown. Profit tends to help. Her experience in exploration of the uncharted areas of this star goes without question, having extensively spent time in Mamook (The New World), and of recent, Meracydia.
- Tribal Upbringing - While she may not look, seem, or talk like it, Vex was brought up in a rigidly traditionalist Keeper community. She's a common sight at any Miqo'te gatherings she can get to.
- Dedicated Conversationalist - Talking is somewhat of an addiction. She simply enjoys a good conversation. Prepare for smarmy flirtations.
- Antagonistic Force - Though not a villainous character, Vex's fortune and career is piracy. She can be antagonistic and single-minded in righting any slights done against her, particularly when it comes to her ego. I'm open to the possibility of playing her as an antagonist dependent on the story.
Family:
- With a tribal upbringing in Keeper society comes a large amount of family. Vex is in league with a cousin, and fellow Captain, Asrah. If you're a contact of Vex's, or of Asrah's, you'll likely run into one or the other sooner or later! ((OOC Note: Asrah is played by a separate player. Find their Carrd below!))

OOC

Hi! I'm Vex, I'm an experienced RPer who has far too much time on their hands. I'm really open to talking and enthusiastic about meeting new people and expanding contacts, so please don't hesitate to reach out.
You can get me on Discord at Vex#0458!
- I'm 28 years old. Non-Binary. She/he/they are all fine.
- Australia-based. I can be available whenever in any timezone. (Though some advance notice is usually needed)
- I'm open to dark, mature, erotic, and adult themes. Please don't hesitate to let me know if any topics make you uncomfortable, I'm really understanding and this is a hobby, so I'd like it to be fun for everyone! Also, I'm not interested in casual ERP.
- I write Vex with a REALLY thick Lominsan Accent, so expect lots of dropped 'H' and strange conjuctions. If you're having difficulty reading it, please let me know and I can type in proper english. I don't mind!
- If you're looking for further real-life example of references, Vex's Voice Reference is Cerys from The Witcher 3, and I imagine she looks somewhat similar to the musician Halsey.
- I won't engage with homophobic or transphobic people. That includes characters that are identified as 'futa' or slurs.

Ship & Career

I've included this section in order to give a better idea of Vex's circumstances and responsibilities, as well as just to add some backstory - this could relate to hooks, perhaps you've seen the ships around Lominsa's harbors, or heard of them. If you, too, are a sailor, perhaps you've even seen them out on the seas! Though let's hope you weren't an unlucky Thavnairian merchant.

Career

An accomplished Captain, risen through the ranks from a simple sailor, Vex has since come into the possession of two vessels. Of which she captains the larger of the two, Pride of Moraby, while her twin brother Vaeh'a captains the smaller Navigator's Prow. Despite undertaking trading and mercantile expeditions to the New World, Thavnair, Hingashi, and beyond, the two ships are undoubtedly pirate vessels. Both ships are brimming with cannon and crew, and sport sleeker designs than any cargo vessel. This Privateering outfit uses the moniker The Blackjackets, after the black leather coats each sailor wears. The coats themselves differ wildly in make, all that matters is that each crew member is clad in their jet-dyed uniform.

The Pride of Moraby

A First-Rate Ship of the Line retired from the Lominsan Second Squadron following severe hull damage during engagements off of the Ilsabardian coast, the Pride has seen herself bought, repaired, and refurnished. With the restructuring of the Maelstrom previous to the battle of Carteneau, she found herself in the service of the Storm-aligned Black Sails Privateers.Like many other Lominsan vessels, the Pride is outfitted with a Parrott rifle in the fore, allowing her to fire in pursuit. The Pride has numerous configurations depending on the purposes of her expeditions, often unloading some of her cannon in order to increase available cargo space, although this is never done whilst skirting the coasts of Ilsabard, Aldenard, or Othard.

Class and type: 101-gun first rate ship of the line
Tonze burthen: 1620
Length: 167 ft 5 in (51.0 m)
Beam: 47 ft 4 in (14.4 m)
Depth of hold: 17 ft 2.5 in (5.2 m)
Propulsion: Sails. One Magitek Engine.
Complement: 500~
Guns: 101 (50 Port, 50 Starboard, 1 Fore)

Crew of the Pride

As one would expect from pirates, the crew are drawn from any race or creed, the Blackjackets are not picky nor show prejudice in their ensigns; the only condition, that they remain loyal to ship and crew. An oddity amongst most Lominsan regiments, The Pride sports a large beastman contingent of Mamool Ja that are oft used as marines; their martial prowess makes them particularly savage combatants well-suited to ship to ship combat. It also brings with it the added bonus of access to their unique magics, only recently brought to the West, Blue Magic. While rare, the Blackjackets make extensive use of them in the crew to cover for a lack of offensive Thaumaturgy. The Pride usually operates with a below-average crew size for a First-Rate Ship of the Line. Crew are paid through prize, drawing cuts dependant on their experience level and time with the crew.
